How the Luther Vandross Team Could Create Music Products from His Documentary
The Luther Vandross documentary helped me remember when we produced Luther at the St Lucia Jazz Festival. Luther had two Caribbean dates, the first in Jamaica the second in St Lucia. We chartered an Air Jamaica jet to fly Luther, his crew and equipment from New York, first to Jamaica then to St Lucia.
Luther was booked for the Sunday at Pigeon Island our largest venue and Wanda, Derek and I knew we needed to be at the airport early and with the tremendous help of the St Lucia Tourist Board we unloaded the plane and transported the crew to their hotel and the gear to the venue were Derek Lewis, Lenny Shillingford and our crew did an amazing job preparing for his performance.
Luther had an amazing show, and I was proud of the job our crew and the St Lucia Tourist Board to ensure a great show.
The documentary was great, but it occurred to me that the Luther team has so much more potential content that they could use to create products that they could sell to the millions of Luther fans.
Here are products Luther’s team could create and sell on a marketplace.
1. Limited-Edition Luther Vandross NFTs
- Digital Collectibles: Iconic moments from the documentary, such as performance clips or behind-the-scenes footage, turned into NFTs.
- Artwork: Digital art inspired by the documentary, featuring iconic quotes or images of Luther.
- Virtual Tickets: NFTs granting access to exclusive online screenings or special Q&A sessions with the musicians, singers and other creators.
2. Music Royalties NFTs
- Fractionalized Royalties: Fans could invest in NFTs tied to royalties from iconic Luther Vandross tracks featured in the documentary. This creates a sense of ownership and participation in his legacy.
3. Virtual Luther Experience
- Metaverse Concerts: Recreate one of his legendary concerts in the metaverse for fans to experience as if they were there.
4. Exclusive Merch Drops
- Custom Apparel: Limited-edition clothing or accessories featuring documentary-themed designs.
- Release a vinyl records like Kings of Leon of his greatest hits, paired with QR codes linking to exclusive Web3 content.
5. Fan Membership Community
- Tokenized Community: Create a social token for Luther Vandross fans that grants perks like early access to projects, voting on future releases, or access to private fan meetups.
- Interactive Discussions: Token holders could participate in discussions with documentary creators or their team about unreleased projects.
Luther’s legacy is enduring and will last forever, creating products from the documentary would allow the team as well as Luther’s heirs to continue to benefit financially from his legacy as well as provide memories for the many Luther Vandross fans in the world.
